Entry for March 20, 2008

March 20, 2008

Atomic Drawers would like to apologize to our dedicated fans for giving the impression that we’d be playing between 9 and 10 last night.  The massive power of our presence apparently has not yet afforded us the ability to pick our playing times at whim; we need to be more punctual.  (To all you young people out there, remember: tardiness gets you nowhere.)  Kudos to Billy and me for remaining sober(ish) while waiting until around 11 to get onstage.

We started things off with California Stars and Whiskey Bottle; our Management informed us later that “we put everybody to sleep and didn’t do enough fucking spinning leg kicks” during those two songs.  We woke everybody up with a rousing version of  Pussywhipped by Dash Rip Rock, followed by He’s a Dick from Goldensmog.  (Hey–if you’re going to sing about one, you might as well sing about the other for the sake of Karmic balance.  Also, it’s really fun to say “pussy” and “dick” through a microphone.)

Somewhere in all of the maelstrom, John (the organizer) disappeared and we were given the greenlight for a couple more songs.  Management screamed at us to play Gin & Juice and Chilly Water and to do more fucking leg kicks, and we obliged, at least on the musical portion.  My top E string unwound during G&J and I didn’t notice it until Chilly, so for those in attendance, I apologize if it sounded like garbage, but honestly, I couldn’t hear a thing.  Words of advice from John: “you need to learn how to string a guitar.”   Point well taken, John.

Atomic Drawers garnered its first celebrity fan last night!  I’ll not name her here for fear of litigation.

Thanks to John, JimBob, Rebecca, and everybody at Lincoln’s for a great evening.  And to our friends who stuck it out with us last night–Stephen, Eric, Eric’s friend, that other guy, Tom, Tom’s wife, that one girl, those musicians, and of course Kelly, the Greatest Manager Ever.

Kelly said last night that she has us booked for a greased pig competition in Arkansas later this year.  We’ll be sure to update you when this is confirmed.

We might play at the Oriental Theatre on Monday night, or maybe we won’t.  Who knows.  We’ll definitely be at Lincoln’s next Wednesday and we’ll definitely be playing at a decent hour.  In the meantime, we’ll be honing our craft and working on the possibility of actually playing an original song or two.

Everyone knows that you don’t need a top E string to pull off Gin and Juice. Also, on the title page you list Kevn Kinney. You guys are old.

Don’t listen to Jim T. He’s just pissed that every day he looks more and more like David Crosby.
