The Drawers are ON

June 23, 2008

How do you get people interested in your product?  Shamelessly include a beagle.  Everybody loves beagles.

Atomic Drawers has been off the past couple of weeks; summertime gets pretty hectic around here.  We went to see this show a few weeks back and were absolutely amazed by the opening act, Hayes Carll.  This guy is incredible, like a cross between Uncle Tupelo and Robert Earl Keen.

We were lucky enough to meet him out in front of the Gothic Theater, where he was smoking a cigarette with a friend.  We complimented him on his show and I, feeling rather confident after a very filling dinner, asked him if he had heard of our band, Atomic Drawers.  He remained courteous and said no, he hadn’t heard of us.  I told him that he’s ever in Denver on a Wednesday night when we happen to be playing at Lincoln’s Roadhouse, he should come and check us out.  He said he’d give it a shot.  (His friend shook his head and rolled his eyes.)  So, check Hayes Carll out.  Not only is he a great musician, but (and let this be a lesson to you kids out there) he wasn’t a dickhead when he had a perfect opportunity to be, and as a result of that as well as his impressive show, we’re big fans.

What else…Atomic Drawers Disciples Carmen and Aaron got married on Saturday, and they were nice enough to give me a few minutes during the ceremony to either play a good song or completely humiliate myself.  Thankfully, the song went over pretty well and we all survived.  (It was really freaky being up there with everybody’s undivided attention and without being able to hide behind a mic stand; there was no PA.)  And, it was one of the best, most unique weddings I’ve ever been to.  Excellent job, Carmen and Aaron, in creating such a fun atmosphere.  Your friends and family appreciate it more than you know.

That captivating convergence of capricious cacophony from Athens, GA will be at Red Rocks this coming weekend; in honor of the event and of guests visiting from out of town, Atomic Drawers will be at Lincoln’s Roadhouse on this Wednesday evening, probably playing sometime between 9 and 10 PM.  We’re playing a setlist submitted by a longtime fan and we hope to see y’all there.
