Steve! David! Renee!

August 7, 2008

Current Atomic Drawers #1 (of 3) Fan Steve hams it up on Lincoln’s drenched patio last night.

It was a dark and stormy night, with very few bargoers and nary an Atomic Drawers fan in sight.

Then, suddenly, out of the misty darkness strode Highlands Ranchero Steve.  Soon after, Aurorian David and his lovely wife Renee happened upon the three-quarters empty bar (or is it one-quarter full?)

Moments later, two extremely motivated self-proclaimed musicians took the stage along with a stellar rhythm section and proceeded to rock the fuck out for their three die-hard fans, fifteen or so musicians and their friends, and bar staffers Chris and Rebecca.

Early on in the evening, Rebecca “wasn’t feeling it” and decided that we would need to plow through with a hefty amount of coldbeer, as well as medicine for my nasty sinus infection.  (Waitress and self-trained doctor–what a combo!)  My head miraculously cleared up, and when Billy and I took the stage, bumping into stuff along the way, we were rarin’ and ready to go.

I knew it was going to be a good one, because without even realizing what I was doing, I walked up to the mic and said, “Alright Motherfuckers.”  It just felt like the right thing to say considering what a crappy evening it was outside and how much fun those lucky few of us were having inside.  We also considered playing When the Levee Breaks, but we don’t know the whole thing and neither of us can sing like Robert Plant.

I think the motherfucker comment really set the tone for our set, which included Patio Song, Turn the Page, Rough Night, and Girl Downtown.

Yeah, that’s right.  Turn the Page.  You gotta get some Seger in sometimes.  If you’re from Shreveport, you know what I’m saying.

So, it was fun.  We hope that our three best fans ever, Steve, David, and Renee, had as much fun as we did.  Thanks for coming out from points far off, i.e. The Ranch and Aurora, and enjoying some music.  We truly appreciate it.

Thanks Johnny and Mike for the outstanding rhythm, John for having us, and Chris and Rebecca for the medication.

We’re playing again next week, and we’re shooting for four guests.

Turn the Page captured the mood well, Joe. Way to scream out that coda. You guys suck less every time I see you play.
